Excursions

We can say without doubt that the Village is located in the middle of the most beautiful stretch of Campania coast, perhaps the most beautiful of Italy. For many years Palinuro and Marina di Camerota get the “Blue Flag” a special award from the “Lega Ambiente” for the quality of the waters and beaches.

As the famous writer Guido Piovene wrote in his book “Viaggio in Italia”
“...the bays of the gulf hide small tropical beaches, unique in Europe. Small spots, covered in fine sand, hidden by a wall of cactus-plants and wild flowers, and behind them, on the slope, thickly-planted olive trees, banks of rocks, playing with the small waves and the sea-foam, the deep blue colour of the sea...Those who know Palinuro become jealous lovers and try and hide it from anyone else...”

PALINURO

Reality and legend meet in this beautiful land: here Ulysses stopped to listen to the singing of the Sirens and Palinuro told Virgilio that he fell asleep, suspended from the stars of the night, in the cobalt blue sea. Some historians think that the name Palinuro derives from "Palin and Uros", from the greek that means "and again the wind" or from the Sanskrit "palasve" meaning "red and wild earth "; anyway everything leads to the massive limestone headland. The high rocky cliffs, including the tip Spartivento, where fascinating caves, coves, cliffs and dense sandy beaches open. Each cave has a particular characteristic: the presence of fossil bones, the particular colors of the rock, sulfureous gas, the blue of the most famous cave, the Blue Grotto, determined by an intense blue light that penetrates into the cavity. The village overlooks the beautiful promontory and in the evening, after sunset, the center becomes a promenade with a shopping area: clothing stores, local products or a simply bar to enjoy a delicious ice cream.

MARINA DI CAMEROTA

Marina di Camerota is a small hamlet, part of the legendary Camerota. It seems that its name derives from that of Kamaraton, the most beautiful girl who was traveling on the ship of Aeneas after his escape from Troy. Palinuro fell in love with her but the love was not returned for this reason goddess Venus, moved by the suffering of the young man turned Kamaraton into the rock on which now stands the village of Camerota. According to most accepted etymology, however, the name derives from the greek Kamaraton, which means building a vaulted arch, and denotes the main feature of the town Camerota, perched on a hill. Marina di Camerota is a fishing village surrounded by beautiful coast and beaches of fine sand. The town overlooks a beautiful waterfront and is characterized by a series of alleyways that hide small shops. The most beautiful part of the coast is the "Bay Infreschi" whis is a Marine Park since 2010.
